Computer Sales in Japan Jan-Nov '99: Rankings released
Dec 20, 1999
DETAILED RESULTS were posted last Friday by BCN Soken concerning computer sales in Japan for the period Jan-Nov 1999. Apple had performed very well in the Japanese market this year according to BCN, chalking up to 23.0% overall market share. The latest details below reveal just how well: save for NEC's ValueStar NX at #3, Macs virtually monopolized the top ten places for best-selling desktops. Top of the list was the 333MHz Blueberry iMac, followed in second place by the Bondi blue Rev B iMac (talk about staying power!). Despite entering the market only in mid-October, Apple's flagship iMac model, the DV Special Edition still made it into the list. The results:
| Desktop Computer Sales | ||
|---|---|---|
| Position | Model | Percentage |
| 1st | iMac Blueberry 333MHz | 5.4% |
| 2nd | iMac Rev B 233MHz | 3.2% |
| 4th | iMac Tangerine 333MHz | 1.7% |
| 5th | iMac Lime 333MHz | 1.7% |
| 6th | iMac Grape 333MHz | 1.7% |
| 7th | iMac Strawberry 333MHz | 1.7% |

| 9th | iMac Blueberry 266MHz | 1.3% |
| 10th | iMac DV SE 400MHz | 1.3% |
In notebook sales, the iBook did reasonably well, too. Released into the market sometime between late September and mid-October — while the official release date in Japan was Oct 16, sales of iBooks had been recorded by BCN since late September — both the Blueberry and Tangerine models still made it into the top 10, at 4th and 9th place respectively.

| 4th | iBook Blueberry 300MHz | 2.0% |
| 6th | PowerBook G3 333MHz | 1.8% |
