Brace Yourself!

Starting this weekend, you're going to see all lot of the iMac. You can run, but you can't hide, because everywhere you go in town, it'll be in your face. At least, that's what's being promised, as Apple's revolutionary iMac hits Singapore tomorrow in a nationwide launch.

I asked Apple Singapore where the proverbial eye of the storm might possibly be, and the answer seems to be Heeren in Orchard Road. According to Apple, there will be a giant iMac blimp just outside the building behind where the bus-stop is. This is probably the same one that was outside Suntec City yesterday at the pre-launch. Balloons and other fun stuff will also be given out to the weekend Orchard Road crowd. Needless to say, you can't miss it - unless you're born bondi blue blind. Anyway, get inside Heeren because there's an Electric City outlet in there where you'll be able to pick up an iMac.

If you can't make it to Heeren, no worries. Because the iMac will be stocked at virtually every Apple retail store and Electric City outlet in Singapore (who'd be crazy enough to miss out on this event!). Even Challenger SuperStore has returned to the Apple fold, and is selling Macs once again. And if you're a Citibank cardholder, get your plastics ready, because the flyers will be hitting your mailboxes soon if they haven't already.

Although Apple Singapore is leaving the launch festivities to the retail shops, its employees will be around to help out with some of the demos, so again, no worries.

Meanwhile, there will be an advertising blitz in the papers and on the airwaves, and starting this Sunday, October 18, Singaporeans will get to see for the first time the famous iMac ads on prime-time TV and during the 10.30 news. This will go on for a whole week.

As was previously reported on this website, radio spots had already been airing since over a week ago, which are a local adaptation of the US version. Class 95 FM has also been instrumental in plugging the iMac, thanks to none other than Joe Augustin, aka Jose Juan Believable, who now dispatches his daily horoscope readings from an iMac instead of his trusty crystal ball. Times have sure changed.

So here's the deal: if you're picking up an iMac this weekend or sometime soon, or you've got an iMac story to share, let me have it. The world needs to know!
